At the Isiah Partner project lecture, Professor Kenda showed us a picture of Operation Dynamo, a military evacuation plan for the British and Franch troops from a small village Dunkirk, surrounded by the German forces.
Wiston Churchill could not find one big military ship for the evacuation of the soldiers trapped at the Dunkirk. He asked people to bring their boats. 800 to 1,200 boats appeared on the horizon. They eventually evacuated 338,000 soldiers. German attackted and conquered Dunkirt when 90,000 soldiers left, most of whom were killed. Operation Dynamo prevented the annihilation of all the troops.
When I see those small fishing boats and leisure boats who did their jobs, I imagine many small groups in our church. Not one big project or plan would save all of us. However, many small groups will bring us home safely. Book groups, women’s groups, men’s groups, Bible discussion groups, Godly play, adult education groups, CMNS, mission groups both for youth and adults, singing groups both in and outside of the church, orchestra, sports groups, and spiritual groups will bring small number of people to Jesus. Eventually they will do their jobs. That will be our church innovation!
