We, Methodists, have a connectional system. That means, we Methodists are all connected. This connectionalism is expressed through appointment and apportionment. We give one tenth of our income to the conference, and conference use that offering to support less resourceful churches and to do larger scale ministries. When a church need a pastor, our bishop appoints a pastor to a local church.
In this connectional system, each pastor serve not only local churches but also larger ministires. One of my job is to be a mentor for a new pastor candidate. My mentee is a Homng and he came to see me today with his senior pastor, Vathanak Heang. He was a Cambodian pastor here at Stockton for a short time.
Hmong group is grown in Clovis area and I was invited to see their ministries. We decided to invite Vathanak to come to preach at Stocton and I go to preach in Clovis so that I can attend the Hmong service led by Lychai. God works in a mysterious way. May the Hmong minstry thrive in the U. S. A. with the help of God!
