FACTS ABOUT THE ABOVE PHOTO
Naalehu, HI
Nāʻālehu is a community in Hawaiʻi County, Hawaii. Nāʻālehu is Hawaiian for “the volcanic ashes”. It is 2.17 square miles with a population of 811 people (as of 2020). It is one of the southernmost towns in the 50 states and the only southernmost town with a post office (I guess this is a big deal)!
I got a kick out of the fact that they have a Methodist Church there! Unfortunately, it does not hold the title of southernmost church in the United States, that title goes to the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Key West, Florida. Oh well…sigh…
