Perfect Day for a Solo Hike
Pacifica (meaning “Peaceful” in Spanish) is a city on the coast of the Pacific Ocean between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay.
Pacifica has more than 101 trails for hiking, biking and walking. I decided to head to Pacific to hike to Pedro Point via the Devil’s Slide Trail. Devil’s Slide Trail is a 1.3-mile trail, converted from a former segment of Highway 1, that gives access to the rocky heights of Devil’s Slide above the Pacific Ocean.
Pacifica is about 1.5 hours from Stockton. The first part of the trail (Hwy 1) is easy, the second part (when you get off the highway section) is shaded by trees covered in hanging moss, and uphill. The elevation gain is about 800 ft. In and out was just under 5 miles. On the day I went the fog rolled in later in the day, so I did not get to see the view from Pedro Point, but it was a great hike! I will go back to explore more of Pacifica.
