NEWS ABOUT YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT MINISTRIES
Our youth and young adults have remained busy and in touch with one another over the last several months.
Youth
Since the beginning of the “shelter in place” our youth have been gathering on Sunday nights for an hour-long youth group over ZOOM. In addition to our Sunday night gatherings our youth have been meeting online every Wednesday night for Bible Study. Our group recently finished the book of Luke and have moved into studying the book of Acts.
As we look forward to the summer we are re-imaging what a mission trip closer to home this upcoming summer. Details are still being figured out, but it looks like our middle school and high school youth will be completing construction-based projects to serve Stocktonians affected by homelessness. Look for more information to come!
Young Adults
Like our youth, our young adults have stayed connected through weekly online gatherings. Our Open Door Methodist Student Ministries (University of the Pacific) gathered through the end of finals to support students as they learned to transition to online learning and to help them grieve the loss of “normalcy” in their student careers. This group will now move to a monthly meeting through the summer and will resume on a weekly basis when classes start in the fall. Our Delta Wesley group has also gathered weekly for peer support groups and will continue to meet semi-regularly through the summer.
CHURCH COUNCIL
The Church Council will hold its monthly meeting by Zoom tomorrow, May 13, at 6.00pm. If you would like to attend the Council meeting, e-mail Jan or Susie for the link. Everyone is welcome. We will hear some updates on our new and continuing ministries and begin to strategize for an extended time of on-line ministry. Our Board of Trustees met last week, and other committees will resume meetings as needed using our ZOOM accounts. The ministry of the church is very much alive.
CARE GIVERS SUPPORT GROUP
Caring for someone in need is one of the greatest gifts we can give in this life, but at times you may feel overwhelmed, frustrated or alone. It is completely natural and normal to feel this way. Our Care Givers Support Group led by Martha Tipton will help you find ways to care for yourself as you care for the person in your life. Beginning this Thursday, the group will meet on Zoom at 2.00pm. Everyone is welcome to join the group. If you would like to be a part of this group contact Martha Tipton and she will send the Zoom contact information to you.
THE NADINE AND ZETA BOOK CART
Once a month the Nadine and Zeta Book Cart will be in the Atrium for you to stop by and check out a book or return one. The book cart will be in the Atrium from noon -12.30pm. on the third Wednesday of the month. We ask that you check out only one book at a time. Check out information is found on the cart in a black notebook.
BEYOND OUR BUILDING
El Concilio is the largest Latino, community- based, non-profit agency in the Central Valley. It helps people of all ages and cultural backgrounds to achieve their dreams. One of the programs they offer is a food giveaway program. We have heard that they are asking for food donations. Tuesday, May 19, we will host a “Fill the Church Van with Food.” Bring your food donations to the church parking lot between noon and 2.00pm. With your help we will fill the van and bring smiles to the clients of El Concilio. If you would like more information about El Concilio check out their website or contact Alan Cook.
GRAPEFRUIT TREE
A church member has a bountiful grapefruit tree that needs picking. One volunteer is needed to pick the grapefruit and bring them to the church. This needs to be done between May 15 and 17. If you are interested contact Alan Cook.
